Join us for the inaugural 2019 Fox Valley Girls Coding Club x Fox.Build Mini Hack-a-thon – hosted by Fox Valley Girls Coding Club and Fox.Build!
What: Mentored teams of middle school girls will use Codesters, Python and Makey Makeys to build something fun. Each project will combine a hardware and software component. Each team will work together to design and build the hardware (Makey Makey) and software (Codesters) elements for their project. Teams will share what they built at a ‘show and tell’ at the end of the day.
When: Monday June 10, 2019 9am-5:30pm
Where: Fox Build, 11 E. Main Street, St. Charles, IL 60174
Who: Five teams of 4-5 girls who are entering 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade in June 2019. Each of these teams will be paired up with 1-2 high school Fox Valley Girls Coding Club members.
Why:
- To introduce local middle school girls to fun STEM hardware and software projects
- To give our high school club members an opportunity to teach what they have learned this year and mentor a team
- To be exposed to cool local groups, like Fox.Build!
- To have fun with technology
- To hang out and meet other girls with the same interests

Why is this a “Mini” Hack-a-thon?
Hack-a-thons typically last 24 hours and end with a formal competition. This one will be a single day and end with a show and tell session where hackers can share what they built:-)
This is really cool, how can I help?
- be an adult mentor during the event!
- make a donation of electric current conducting craft supplies 🙂
- make a financial contribution – we will recognize corporate sponsors on our website!
- donate swag – especially if you work at a cool tech company! 😉
- donate snacks (feed coding brains!)
